The boys from the Second City continue their west coast road trip with a visit to the Friars on Monday night for Game One of their three-game set in San Diego. The Cubs are sending right-hander Jameson Taillon to the mound for the Game One start. Taillon has pitched well in his first three games of the season posting a record of 1-1 SU with a 6.06 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in 16.1 innings of work. Taillon has struggled with the long ball he has allowed four home runs already this season. The Friars will send a right-hander of their own to the bump in Dylan Cease who has made three starts this season. Over those three trips to the bump, he posted a record of 1-1 SU with a 7.98 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP in 14.2 innings of work. Cease is coming off a poor performance in his last start which sent his ERA skyward. His two previous starts to that one he pitched rather well. We have Cease and company qualified as the play on team in our Reverse Momentum Matrix. We also know Cease faced Chicago twice last season and was 2-0 SU in thirteen innings giving up two unearned runs on three hits with one hit by pitch, four walks, and nineteen strikeouts. When it comes to bullpens there is a huge difference between the teams. The Cubs are 25th in the league with a bullpen ERA of 4.53 while the Friars lead the majors with a bullpen ERA of 1.51 on the season. Our TPR Index projects a run advantage of 1.47 runs. The SIM Matrix has the San Diego Padres with a 68.58 percent advantage against the Chicago Cubs in tonight’s contest. The Padres also qualify in our Reverse Momentum Matrix with Cease on the bump. They have a game average of .776 while the Cubs come in with an average of .618 with Taillon on the mound. Play ON MLB home -140 or more favorites when they scored five or fewer runs for their starter in his last start and it is before the All-Star break, 1264-684 SU (65%)(+$5,103). With significant support on the bump and at the plate for the Friars we will lay the chalk in San Diego on Monday night. PLAY: 3* SAN DIEGO PADRES (-)
